Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development's Job Opportunity Building Zones (JOBZ)
Job Opportunity Building Zones, also known as JOBZ, is a program created to generate business activity outside the Twin Cities Metropolitan Area. Parcels of land in Greater Minnesota were selected to participate in the program. Qualifying businesses locating in a zone will operate nearly free of state and local taxes.
In order to qualify a business must start-up in a zone, relocate from outside a zone or expand. Companies relocating from another site in Minnesota qualify by increasing employment by at least 20 percent in the first year or making capital investment of at least 10 percent of gross revenues. In addition, businesses must also meet local assistance goals.
Qualifying businesses locating in JOBZ are eligible for tax exemptions including: corporate income tax, individual income tax, sales and use tax, most property taxes, and wind energy production tax. Businesses are also eligible for a job creation credit.
